World at War outsells CoD4 2 to 1 in week one article image

World War II was a long and bloody affair - a war with no winners. That was, until Activision-Blizzard came along. The newest game in the Call of Duty franchise has outsold its predecessor two to one in the first week of sales.

World at War is sitting proud atop the multi-format charts with World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King nestled in the No. 2 position and Guitar Hero World Tour bringing up the rear. According to GI.biz, 25% all game sales for the week ending November 15th were courtesy of Activision.

A sequel to COD 4 would be COD4: 2 the return. I'm sure they could cook grenades in COD4 though, or at least it seemed like it as I was dying horribly...

Totally man, I think it's definitely splitting opinions. Grenade issue is a real pain, especially now that enemies can cook them = instant unfair death.

I'm concerned at the rumours that CoD 6 will be set in the future. I think it should just be a Modern Warfare sequel. That would mnake my day like.

OK, it's not a failure, but I really didn't give damn after several hours of really trying to enjoy it. I didn't care about the return to WW2 (it would be nice to see other theatres but I'm not that fussed)but I spent most of it pretty bored whereas 4 had me constantly interested. Also don't get me started on the games obsession with grenades. But as you said, each to their own...

Each to their own gentlemen, each to their own.

I prefer CoD 4, but I wouldn't say WaW is a failure by any measure I think it's just that folk have become so accustomed to the modern setting that they have trouble going back to the WWII, which is perfectly understandable.

But to call it a failure is a bit over the top.

I admit, I moaned my arse off when I heard it was going back to 1945, after playing it, I think it's highly competent and a viable addition to the series. Kudos Treyarch!

Epic fail for the gaming public. Epic win for marketing.
