EA's marketing leap of faith article image

Last night, EA made their way to Glasgow's Bellahouston Leisure Centre to promote the vertigo-fuelled Mirror's Edge. The company celebrated the release by staging a parkour coaching session for attendees to relive their favourite acrobatics from the game.

Close to 200 participants showed up to vault over obstacles, balance on beams and bounce off walls. No bones were broken. In fact - there wasn't even enough hard falls to make a 'best of bloopers' reel - all in attendance showed real flair for the parkour.

EA cooled things down by raffling off a host of Mirror's Edge prizes, including an HDTV, Xbox 360, 16 copies of the game and a number of CD soundtracks.

Cohort Studios buzzing over new release article image

Dundee-based Cohort Studios have been hard at work on their newest addition to the Buzz! Jr series. The East coast development team have previously provided resources for PS3 launch title, Motorstorm and provided their development expertise for the hugely popular Burnout franchise.

Recent work with SCEE has produced two acclaimed titles in Sony's popular Buzz! Junior series. The early-2008 release of Buzz! Jr: Dino Den had no problem holding it's own in the upper reaches of the UK PlayStation Chart, and we've just received a press release for Cohort's second game in the series, Buzz! Jr: Ace Racers.

Microsoft NXE is online now! article image

Today's the day!

Microsoft has officially released the New Xbox Experience across Xbox Live worldwide. As soon as you turn on your Xbox, you'll be prompted to accept the update, assuming you're all hooked up to the interweb. As long as the Microsoft servers can take the heat, your download should only take a couple of minutes and you'll be ready to explore the new dashboard.

"The future of home entertainment is Xbox 360 - it's on demand, it's high definition, it's always social, it's all in one place," said Xbox Vice President Don Mattrick.

Sony show interest in Guitar Hero for PSP article image

In a recent interview with MTV Multiplayer, Sony's John Kroller spoke about the company's interest in a Guitar Hero game appearing on the handheld.

"Music is the number two use on the PSP, behind gaming. So, the marrying of those two concepts is of huge interest to us, and if there's that opportunity to launch a title like that or even a new title that utilizes music in some way, then obviously we're very interested."

Racing games have a negative impact on driving article image

Racing games have a "negative impact" on a person's driving, according to an Australian cop who has spoken to the Daily Telegraph. Apparently, they increase risk-taking when a driver gets behind the wheel. The New South Wales acting Superintendent, Dave Evans claims that the likes of Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport contribute to a lack of responsibility on the road.

"Video games can have a negative impact on young drivers because it increases their complacency and their indulgence in risk-taking behaviour," Supt Evans said.
