Unreal Pirates? Avast ye maties and get yourself article image

To celebrate the faux holiday "Talk like a Pirate Day" Telltale have partnered with Steam to bring reductions on Piratey adventure The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition. For this weekend only it's available for the princely sum of £3.50. Did you hear me or should you clean out your buccin ears?

Unreal Tournament is also reduced as it celebrates its tenth birthday so the original is available for 99p with Unreal Tournament 3 Black Edition (Contains the bonus Titan DLC) at £5.60 (as well as being able to play it this weekend for free) and the totally unreal deal pack for just £9.20.

Sadly the free episode of the new Tales of Monkey Island has expired (Stupid developers on American time) but if you were lucky enough to get a code and already had the season pass then you can use that code on any other single episode from Telltale. Rumour also has it that it will work on future releases too.

That's why mums go to iceland, maybe not.

Whilst web based games download services have taken a beating in the press, due to lack of continued developer support and a pricing model based on popularity rather than supply and demand, the economic climate (once again proving that not even the humble Square Go is above the classic journalistic tact of mentioning the recession in every possible article or news post) means that even these companies are offering great reductions.

This month's champions of cheapness are Direct2Drive who are offering Bioshock, Max Payne 2, Tomb Raider Legend, Civilisation IV, Sid Meier's Pirates!, Thief: Deadly Shadows and Empire Earth 1 and 2 all at five pounds. Yes you can possibly pick up some of the games for cheaper (I myself picked up the rather good S.T.A.L.K.E.R. for just one pound in a CD/Games store located in Partick, Glasgow) if you're willing to get your hands dirty (often literally in the case of thrift and charity stores) but with big titles like Bioshock and Tomb Raider Legend available without moving from your seat all for a cracking price, why not take advantage.

Check all this week's deals here, and stay tuned in the following weeks for RPG/MMO titles, Indie gems and last (and perhaps least if it just turns out to be individual Sims expansion packs - H&M Fashion Pack I'm looking at you) EA franchises.

Games Media Awards Nominations article image

Our very own Dave Cook, the new editor, is up for the Best Regional Columnist in the Games Media Awards.

A popular writer for the Scotsman as well as our very own lovely website Dave has always been at the forefront of videogaming writers, winning the award last year.

Dave's also proud to be acting as a panel member for the very same awards, although not for his own nominated group - obviously.

To see other nominees and keep up to date then check out:

Bethesda To Publish Wheelspin article image

Bethesda, creators of the epic Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and the mighty Fallout 3 have announced that they will be publishing Wheelspin for the Wii.

The latest project from developer Archer Maclean, the inter-planetary futuristic racing game is a far cry from the usual action RPGs the company is renowned for, as well as being their first title for a Nintendo console.

You know it's going to be good if Bethesda are making it though.
