Guys! The world is changing out there, like, all the time. And it's no different in here at SquareGo Towers; We have been going over the empire, revamping and generally giving everything a bit of a post Edinburgh Festival polish. As a result of all of this we have decided to change how we rate games!
Gone are the days of the old and foolish 'scoring out of ten', those are days we will look back upon with a mixture of nostalgia and warm hearted embarrassment about how silly we were. Now we are moving forwards into... The Future™.
The Future™ is all about rating stuff out of five!
If you have a look at our Ratings Guide you can have a read of the new science based scoring system. But why, you may be asking, are we creating a huge fracas by changing everything (we will be changing every score on the site in due time)?
The answer is simple; while we were having a wee think about what we are trying to do with the site - how we are communicating the fun that is available inside every box near a telly or inside you phone - we realised the scores we were giving games did not fit with this at all.
What is the difference between a seven and an eight? Really? Not that much. Is that tiny difference in the number going to change whether you buy a game or not? Doubtful. In fact if anything it is just going to serve to confuse or be used as a reason to doubt the reviewer because some other game got an eight or a nine. That nitpicking is not what we are about.
So it is with all these thoughts we sat around, drinking heavily, debating the merits of the various scoring mechanisms the internet has to offer. Out of 100? Not in my lifetime son! Way too arbitrary. Out of six (like on a die, innit)? Bit too strange... Scoring like at school. NOT FUN. So, we thought. What is simple, what says 'awesome, good, medium, meh, and urgh', in a slightly more intelligible manner? WELL GUYS that is a score out of five!
Five is the most fun you can have and one is the least. Pretty bloomin' simple.
So, do not fret or get confused. Sure, the scores still say right now that they are out of ten. BUT THEY AREN'T. We are changing them now. So sit back, relax, enjoy the new ratings and let us know your thoughts on any of the other structures and processes that make up our website.
