Review

If there was one thing that was remarkable about the ‘6th generation' of gaming, which ran approximately from 1998 to 2005, it was the ascension of the medium from something ‘popular with the kids' to a fully fledged part of modern entertainment culture. As consoles were released with multi-media functions such as DVD players and began to display visuals realistic enough to gain credibility from the general public, gaming transcended major age and gender barriers for the first time and truly became an essential part of household kit. Internally it also saw Sony's golden age, the death of the Sega console, put Nintendo well and truly in the corner and also saw the arrival of a new usurper to the gaming throne.

Mini Ninjas Preview by Brian Ashford | 20-05-09

Back in 2000 Io Interactive released Hitman: Codename 47 to critical acclaim. Its balance of shooting, sneaking and stripping bodies down to their undies before stealing their uniforms has since been tuned and improved in three sequels. Their other games have been less successful perhaps but still unique and entertaining third person shooters. Now it seems they have decided to try something different... Ninjas!

Ben 10 Alien Force is the latest game to originate from the Cartoon Network show Ben 10. Five years ago Ben Tennyson put away the Omnitrix, a watch-like device he had found while on a camping trip with his grandfather Max and cousin Gwen. The Omnitrix allows the user to transform into various alien forms by combining the DNA of the alien with the user's own. Now that his grandfather has gone missing and the Earth is in danger from evil creatures from outer space Ben must make use of the Omnitrix once again.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game by Michael Slevin | 11-05-09

Back in the 80s, Ghostbusters was a phenomenon. The story of three parapsychologists (and one man just looking for a job) turned ghost exterminators captured the hearts of audiences everywhere. Its wonderfully quotable script, spectacular special effects and hilarious comic moments, combined with a fantastic soundtrack, lead to the eventual box office takings of over half a billion dollars in the U.S. alone, and that's omitting any money made from the merchandise the film spawned.
