Episode three of the Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People series is entitled Baddest of the Bands. Once again players control the shirtless hero with the Mexican wrestling mask; only in this episode events diverge from the typical setup as the centre stage for the action is not a Strong Bad Email but Strong Bad's beloved Fun Machine. Only seconds into playing one of his favourite games “Limozeen: Hot Babelien Odyssey” disaster strikes and he is forced to seek the only qualified Fun Machine repair man, Bubs, of the concession stand fame.

Guitar Hero Metallica by Dave Cook | 04-06-09

It now seems that after successfully adding a full instrumental set up to the band simulation genre, games based around a single band are the way forward for both Neversoft and Harmonix, developers of Guitar Hero Metallica and the forthcoming Beatles game respectively. But while the influence and continuing popularity of The Beatles back catalogue isn't to be sniffed it, it's hard to imagine that the game will have quite the same amount of attitude and raw energy as Neversoft's latest offering. Love them or loathe them, Metallica truly are the masters of metal and marrying them with Guitar Hero truly is a match made in heaven. Or should that be hell in this case?

The History of Gaming - The 7th Generation by Brian Ashford | 02-06-09

The seventh generation of gaming kicked off with the release of the Xbox 360. Few thought that even Microsoft could do it, the console had been announced less than a year beforehand but there it was, high definition gaming under the Christmas tree in 2006. Some people complained; it was too soon, no-one wanted to upgrade yet, the developers weren't ready for this level of detail yet!

When California-based developer Neversoft announced it was working on a version of Guitar Hero based entirely on the rise and rise of Platinum selling rock band Aerosmith, fans of the series didn't quite know what to expect. Some bemoaned the choice of band and got snippy because their favourite band wasn't the focus of the game, while others saw a very clever progression of the series.

The History of Gaming - The 6th Generation by Craig Wilson | 25-05-09

If there was one thing that was remarkable about the ‘6th generation' of gaming, which ran approximately from 1998 to 2005, it was the ascension of the medium from something ‘popular with the kids' to a fully fledged part of modern entertainment culture. As consoles were released with multi-media functions such as DVD players and began to display visuals realistic enough to gain credibility from the general public, gaming transcended major age and gender barriers for the first time and truly became an essential part of household kit. Internally it also saw Sony's golden age, the death of the Sega console, put Nintendo well and truly in the corner and also saw the arrival of a new usurper to the gaming throne.
