With so many side scrolling shooters available as freeware or on consoles, they need a pretty clever hook to stand out from the pack and while some will add many number of shiny bells and whistles onto an ageing fomula, Warning Forever features only one hook, but by gum is it a belter!
Side scrollers always feature screen-filling bosses spewing endless waves of hot lead at you until they finally succumb to your lasers or homing missiles. Quite often, they are inventive, requiring an insane amount of concentration - for one blink could mean the difference between surviving another few seconds, or nudging your ship a fraction too far into a stray bullet.
Warning Forever uses the end of level boss format and creates a game entirely around this, doing away with the smaller enemies and actual levels; It's just your ship, endless space and one bad guy.
Once the game begins, you take on the first boss relatively easily, but here's the kicker; depending on what side of the boss you focused most of your fire on, the next one will have considerably ramped up defenses on that side to compensate, getting larger and more difficult with each wave.
Before long you are facing a seemingly invincible, hulking monstrosity of a boss, armed to the teeth with extra turrets, defensive layers and laser cannons. The best tip is to spread out your damage evenly as this makes the boss grow slower, while creating a gradual learning curve.
With crisp, almost wireframe visuals and seriously addictive gameplay, as each inevitable failure begs you to come back for more punishment. Warning Forever has achieved a massive cult following online and from the first play, it's easy to see why.
Buy some eye-drops, take a breath and have a go, you'll need all the concentration you can muster to take this boss down a peg or two.

On linux it works perfectly fine for me using wine: http://www.winehq.org/, not sure what the deal is in Mac OS though.
There's no clear-cut way to play this easily unfortunately :/
