What are the challenges of sending a hedgehog into space? Well, obviously their spines would rip the space suit and the instant something frightened them they would curl into a ball and break their helmet in the process. Armor Games has cut the red tape around space travel by giving you a hedgehog with a rocket strapped to it and a rubber band launcher.

The controls are simple, click and grab the hedgehog with the mouse, pull back the rubber band and let rip. Once in the air you can control your hedgehog by using the left and right arrows to fire the left and right booster packs, up to activate your parachute and down for the emergency rocket boost.

The general aim is to help the Minovian government speed up their space program by launching a hedgehog into space; you have 40 days to do this. Each trial launch represents a day's progress, to speed up the events you can purchase upgrades like bigger rubber bands, extra rocket boosters or some sweet shades, because let's face it once you've been into space all the lady hedgehogs will be calling and you'll need to look the part.

Money is earned by collecting coins, achieving higher levels of altitude or keeping your hog airborn for as long as possible. Some strategy is created by using the radar scanner to seek out platforms to keep boosting you upwards but it's a fairly easy game to beat. My first attempt resulted in successful orbit in less than 15 days and the second was achieved in just 5.

It's a nice distraction from the more serious flash games that are becoming popular and it's kind of heart warming when you see your hedgehog's face light up in the middle of space. It's possible he dies shortly afterwards from asphyxiation but happily the charm of Hedgehog Launch doesn't fade so quickly.
