The world is under threat from diabolical aliens and only you can operate the weapons defence system that can repel their impending invasion. Captcha Invaders is a quick typing text-based Flash game where the key to survival is to type in the captchas, codes that consist of letters and numbers, found on the side of alien ships as quickly as possible.
When typed correctly, a missile will be launched from the control centre that will destroy the appropriate alien vessel. The quicker you type in the sequence of characters, the more points you will receive for that kill but if you mistype the sequence then you must start over. The ships will descend on your base in waves of different strength and speed. Your base is protected by an over shield which will deflect the first alien vessel to come in contact with it but afterwards it will go down leaving your base completely vulnerable. Any contact with the extraterrestrials at this point spells game over!
The gameplay and control scheme are easy to pick up. Simply type in what you see on your targeted alien spaceship and then hit the enter key to fire a missile at it. It’s a basic formula that allows you to test just how are a total of five levels to battle your way through, starting off very easy and progressively get much more difficult as you contend with faster and bigger waves, longer sequences and harder to read text. The way in which the difficulty jumps between levels feels comfortable and allows for player improvement but can be very frustrating in the later levels.
The music is quirky and sets the mood of the game extremely well. It reminds me of the Simpson’s Halloween special episodes and gives off that freaky B-movie feeling. In addition all the sound effects are crisp and clean and nothing is more satisfying then the launch of a rocket and the following explosion. Both the graphics and animations are presented very well especially the interface which is extremly neat.
Overall, Captcha Invaders is a basic yet solid quick typing text-based Flash game that steals a good amount of your internet time until you’ve either defended the world successfully, your fingers become too numb to continue or mysteriously your keyboard has been smashed into nothingness.
