Dante's Inferno by Graeme Strachan | 12-02-10

Originality is a funny thing in video games. A good idea in one game is usually ‘borrowed’ by following titles in the genre. Dante’s Inferno takes this a step further than most games; having copied outright, not just an idea but the style, controls and even camera system from the hack and slash God of War franchise in a very unsubtle manner. So much so, it could be mistaken at a glance for God of War 3.

Mass Effect 2 by Craig Wilson | 02-02-10

If there's one barrier between the conception of games as a modern genre of artistic entertainment and that of them being a silly, violent distraction for kids; it's maturity. By this we don't mean swearing, sex and violence, but something which will treat an adult audience with respect, telling an intelligent tale with rounded, interesting characters who you can genuinely care about. If games are ever to be truly respected in this manner then it'll have been titles like Mass Effect 2 (ME2) which began to bridge the gap. Make no mistake, for all the flashy spaceships, rattling guns and odd aliens, ME2 is most concerned with it's characters and in trying to making you sympathise with their hopes and fears as much as possible.

Fifa 10 by John Truesdale | 21-10-09

Electronic Arts have positioned themselves nicely in the video gaming industry by purchasing previously existing titles and reiterating sports titles year after year. Unfortunately some years you may feel that the new version just wasn’t worth the money spent but rest assured that Fifa 10 is by far, the best installment of Fifa to date and possibly the best football simulation title that has ever been available.
