It seems like there's a disparity between what people think they want from retro games and what they actually want. It's the difference between how it was and how you remember it. With Revenge of the Wounded Dragons you get an odd mix of both.

BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger by Michael Black | 24-02-10

A game's intro is supposed to get you excited by setting the tone, but all too often it just leads to disappointment. That's not the case here though, playing BlazBlue looks every bit as good as its well produced anime-style intro. The fighters are all large, beautiful and meticulously hand drawn sprites. If only more games used hand drawn images in full HD.

Tekken 6 by Sean Bamberger | 29-12-09

Tekken 6 is the latest offering in a series which has always been seen as the slow, clunky and chunky foil to the flash-bang-kapow Street Fighter (SF) games. Whereas SF had the player jumping 15 feet high across the screen, lobbing balls of flaming goop and turning themselves into a living ball of electricity the best you could manage out of Tekken was a puff of sparkles every time you pulled off a well timed punch or kick. Glitzy it is not, but the amount of depth and tactical know-how required to master the game (especially in later iterations when the hardware finally managed to catch up with the developers intentions) made Tekken the thinking man's fighter.

Smackdown v Raw 2010 is the latest WWE offering to hit the shelves, a must for all wrestling fans. Over the years the SvR series has gradually improved but this year has seen the biggest advancement to date. On entering the game you find yourself in the newly added training ring; great for first time players. Here you not only get the chance to practice your moves but you will find tips and hints to prepare you for what lies ahead. For the more experienced gamer it is very easy just to skip the training ring, but don’t dismiss it entirely, a visit now and then is essential to perfect your signature moves.
