Review

As we've seen before, taking the best bits of top titles and melding them together does not necessarily make a brilliant game. Wheelman managed it, blending elements of Grand Theft Auto and Burnout to fine effect, making for a fast and fun actioner. Damnation gives it a go with highlights from fellow third-person shooters, and while not terrible, it does fall way short of the bullseye.

Resistance: Retribution by Graeme Strachan | 19-05-09

Retribution stands as a bridging story between the first and second games, following the destruction of the London fortress and the expulsion of the Chimera threat from old Blighty, it tells the story of the liberation of Europe at the hands of the Allied command and the French Maquis. Crossing through Belgium? France and Germany. Trying to root out the source of the fresh Chimera troops and destroy it.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game by Michael Slevin | 11-05-09

Back in the 80s, Ghostbusters was a phenomenon. The story of three parapsychologists (and one man just looking for a job) turned ghost exterminators captured the hearts of audiences everywhere. Its wonderfully quotable script, spectacular special effects and hilarious comic moments, combined with a fantastic soundtrack, lead to the eventual box office takings of over half a billion dollars in the U.S. alone, and that's omitting any money made from the merchandise the film spawned.

Left 4 Dead by Dave Cook | 20-11-08

Co-op is fast becoming a staple of many multiplayer-enabled console titles these days. The notion of playing together as a team towards a common objective is the new black, as opposed to simply fragging the hell out of each other for kicks and gamerpoints (you know who you are). However, very few developers can stand up and honestly say their game was built with co-op in mind. Some games pull it off incredibly well, while others offer a co-op mode that feels tacked on and more like an after-thought than a core feature.
