More Bloons by Josh Wilson | 01-04-08
Monkeys hate balloons, its science fact. Since the invention of monkeys back in the 1960's, the creatures have never been able to mix with everyones favourite celebratory fare. The static generated results in the monkeys being mobbed by the floating balls, so much so that at one child's jungle themed birthday party in San Fransisco, four of the standard issue party squirrel monkeys were sent spiralling into space on the back of a raft of 'Happy 4th Birthday' helium filled balloons. Anyway, it is the monkey's natural aversion to these inflatable devices that is the inspiration of 'Bloons'... A monkey, kitted out wit' some tungsten (darts), is out to pop as many balloons as possible. With you, said monkey's puppeteer, controlling the power and angle of release. Simple non? Well, non actually. Extra puzzle based complications arise with the addition of power ups, helium balloons, ice balloons and a boomerang. Rubber blocks, bounce pads and bomb balloons all serve to block your way. And so progressing from area to the next can take some puzzle solving as well as a keen eye. Indeed the later levels are intricate, requiring a fair amount of planning before even trying to pull off the shots. Shots which are extremely tricky (even Phil 'The Power' Taylor would struggle with some), but never feel impossible. Which is what gives the Bloons series such moreish appeal. More Bloons is a brand new set of 50 levels, with the first levels easing in any new players and introducing the newer game mechanics (the last shot indicator being an excellent one of these). A simple but well executed game, it will take some time to finish, but you will. 6/10 Play More Bloons Here
