The decision to take the Call of Duty series back to its World War II roots was met with split opinions, outcry and curiosity. How could Treyarch make the era fresh again after so many games had used it as their backdrop? After a long wait, it seems that grit, more violence and a brutal tone is the answer, with none of the substance established by the brilliant Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. This is not an awful game by any means, just a significant step back from the foundation laid by Infinity Ward.
